Poetry 365 – Day 334 (Tomorrow’s Darkness)

Sitting alone
In a silent room
The empty window
Frames
A world changed

Night

Quick to appear
Slow to leave

Overpowering
Overwhelming
Oppressive

Dark afternoon
Angles, sharp edges, unfriendly shadows
Cast around

Is nothing left alive
Just shades of black, grey and blue

The silent world
Outside
Sealed behind glass

Still, lifeless, monochrome
Yet
Trees blow wildly
Sharp-edged, whipping
Flogging the bare night sky

Night encroaches
Clouds sail at speed
Like unlit ships
Dark
Malevolent vessels
Carrying this mood
Towards the light

Sleep soon
Dreams of light then
Tomorrow’s darkness
