Pick a card
Any card
I drew the two of clubs
Not three or even four
What does it mean?
I’m not really sure
Of course it has some meaning
Or so some people say
A life changing number
There’s trouble
On the way
Significance
Where there is none
A card drawn from a pack
Simple mathematics
Is all it is
Some weird things have happened
At times in my life
But honestly it’s just all maths
Probability
Not chance or random order
The two of club means nothing
Not if it came out a thousand times
Call it
The card of death or card of life
It really wouldn’t matter
Mathematics is what it is
Not the hand of god
Luck
Fate
Chance
Or any other such hocus pocus
Inspired by NaPoWriMo challenge for April 2015 – Day Twenty Two “Now for today’s prompt. Today, I challenge you to take a chance, literally. Find a deck of cards (regular playing cards, tarot cards, uno cards, cards from your ‘Cards Against Humanity’ deck – whatever), shuffle it, and take a card – any card! Now, begin free-writing based on the card you’ve chosen. Keep going without stopping for five minutes. Then take what you’ve written and make a poem from it.
