The British railway industry
Is sorry
For any delay
You may have experienced
On your journey with us
Today
We’ve had some technical problems
It’s not really been our fault
Broken down trains
Problems with wiring
Signals not working
Faulty equipment at the side of the line
Passengers falling ill
Animals on the line
Bridges being lifted
Leaves on the line
Tracks being laid
Engineering works
We know our trains are overcrowded
We are working to improve things
Check before you travel
As improvements means delay!
You lot carry on like any of this our fault
The Great British public
Whinging, whining tossers
Where was I
Oh yes
Customer service announcement
We don’t always have relief crews
To work at such short notice
The last thing we ever expected is
We might have
Sickies or sleep ins
To try to ease your burden
We’ve put on a much slower bus
Instead of your train today
And it’s about to set off from the front of the station
So run without delay!
Inspired by the NaPoWriMo challenge for April 2015 – “And now for our prompt. Today, I challenge to write a poem that states the things you know. For example, “The sky is blue” or “Pizza is my favourite food” or “The world’s smallest squid is Parateuthis tunicata. Each line can be a separate statement, or you can run them together. The things you “know” of course, might be facts, or they might be a little bit more like beliefs. Hopefully, this prompt will let your poem be grounded in specific facts, while also providing room for more abstract themes and ideas.”
