Poetry 365 – Day 348 (Darkness Is Upon Us)

Darkness is upon us
Now the norm
The rhythm of our lives
Moving to a slower beat
Each day darker
Than the last
Dawn creeps unseen
From night to-day

Birds sing
A listless song
In the murky morning half-light
Hopes soon dashed of winter sun
The darkest week
Set not to disappoint

Mid morning gloom
Rolls on towards lunchtime
The light now
Grey as a summer’s day
Just before a storm
The year turns
Feel it moving

It’s all coming to a head
This dark week before Christmas
Let winter begin
And light nights hasten
Towards us
Bringing new life
And cheer

Time to brighten
This dull autumn day
Tinsel town
Is calling
Pretty lights
Plastic baubles
Bright scented candles
Nightfall arrives
Smile
